Ebooks as EPUB or plain text. Audiobooks as m4b, mp3 or m4a. Both must be files you can pick in the Files app on iPhone or in the Finder on Mac; a book that only exists inside another app's own library, in a format that app protects, cannot be picked and so cannot be added. PDF is not supported yet.

No. Everything, including the transcription, happens on the device. The one exception is the first time a language is transcribed: the system may download that language's speech model from Apple. After that Entzun works fully offline. Keeping your library in step between your devices goes through iCloud, so that part needs a connection, but reading never does.

Minutes, for a long book, and it only has to happen once. The library shows how much of the narration is synced, and you can start reading as soon as the first chapter is done; a chapter that is still syncing opens as plain text you can read without the narration. Keep Entzun open, or let it keep syncing in the background if you have switched that on in Settings.

That the recording does not follow the ebook closely enough for the words to be lined up. The usual reasons are an abridged recording, a different edition or translation, or an audiobook of a different work altogether. Check that both files are the same unabridged text. If they are and it still says so, the diagnostics report above is the quickest way to get it looked at; “Transcribe Again” in the book's details is worth one try first.

Publisher credits, chapter announcements and other stretches the narrator reads that are not in the book are recognised and set aside, so those should not throw it off. Where the transcription missed a word, its time is worked out from its neighbours, which can be a fraction of a second out. Tapping a word always jumps to its best-known time.

Yes. If both are signed in to the same Apple Account with iCloud Drive on for Entzun, a book added on one appears on the other with its alignment already done, and each device knows where you got to. Open a book that is further along on another device and the app asks which place to carry on from before showing a page. Without iCloud you can still add the same two files on each device; they just sync separately and keep their own places.

Entzun keeps its own copy of every file you add, so an audiobook you also keep elsewhere is stored twice. After adding a book, Entzun offers to delete the originals you picked; it does this only when asked. Deleting a book from the library removes its files and everything worked out from them, on that device and in iCloud. Audiobooks are large, so a big library also takes room in your iCloud storage.

Newsreader, Atkinson Hyperlegible Next, Lexend, Luciole and OpenDyslexic, at any size, with your own character, word, line and paragraph spacing, natural or justified alignment, the width of the column, a Paper, Sepia, Night or High Contrast palette or the system's choice, and the option to follow the system text size. The spoken word can be marked with a highlight or an underline, and Single sentence shows one sentence at a time.

iPhone with iOS 26 or later, and Mac with macOS 26 or later. The word-level timing relies on speech analysis Apple added in those releases, which is why earlier systems cannot run it.
